Welcome to the new era of the Weekly Economic Update!

Assuming I have got all the settings correct (and that is a big assumption), the entirety of this post will only be visible to paid subscribers, or those to whom I have “gifted” a paid subscription (like family members, close friends, you know…all people who never read it anyway).

Consumer Sentiment

Well, nothing like starting the year off with a bit of negative news. According to the University of Michigan, consumer sentiment in the present situation fell to a 40-year low in December (full release here). In fact, the December number was the lowest the survey has ever recorded since it began in 1978.
